About the Artist
Rusty Umphenour is a photographic artist and visual storyteller based in Atlanta, Georgia. A lifelong observer of light, emotional memory, and symbolic meaning, Rusty creates work that explores the thresholds between beauty and decay, presence and absence, grief and transformation.
Though he's been capturing images since high school—guided by a natural sense of dramatic composition. Rusty spent decades exploring different career paths, yet never felt fully connected to them. In those years, he quietly refined his vision through the intimacy of everyday life and the evolving story of his family.
Now, in midlife, Rusty embraces once more the artist he was in his youth and has become again as an adult. Through his studio project Bone, Bloom & Rust, he crafts photographic series that speak to those craving something deeper than the surface—people navigating loss, change, or the quiet ache of reinvention. His collections, including Bloodroot Gospel, Shadow Archive, Planes of Existence (PoE), and Tulip Sutras evoke both the sacred and the surreal, blending the ordinary with the eternal.
Rusty’s work is a mirror for anyone who has ever felt like a stranger in their career, a romantic in a practical world, or a soul searching for beauty in the cracks. His experiences have sharpened his ability to see people, moments, and beauty with uncommon clarity.
